Smacked Arse Comedy at the Autumn Nabd'ness rally 2009
Amongst all of the other entertainment at this year’s Autumn Nabd’ness bikers rally there will be a stand-up comedy show of gargantuan proportions brought to you by Smacked Arse Comedy and the NABD.
The Autumn Nabd’ness event has moved to a new home at Enstone Airfiled in West Oxfordshire (between Oxford and Chipping Norton just off the A44. As previously the show will feature a plethora of live bands, disco’s, custom bike show, three bars (including a real ale marquee), street circus entertainers, trade stands, and even a children’s show.
The comedy show will start at 1:00pm on Saturday September 12th in the Adult Only marquee and will feature:
JOHN WARBURTON
(Headline Act)
John's friendly, yet cutting routine, lends itself to a wide range of clubs and audiences. Combining his sometimes-brutal observations with wickedly written songs John is a sure fire hit with any crowd.
As well as being a stand-up comic, a published author and a columnist for a daily national newspaper, John is an accomplished compere as well as a sketch writer and performer for the Unbroadcastable Radio Show ("Eminently Broadcastable" - The Guardian).
He has headlined at the Comedy Store on their weekend "Best of Stand-Up" show and plays all the big clubs around the north of England and the Midlands, such as Rawhide, The Frog and Bucket, The Glee and The Hyena.
John headlined the Friday night show in Rick Hulse's comedy bar at the Welsh National Motorcycle Show in 2007 where he left half of the audience gasping for breath and the other half baying for more! There were tears of laughter running down the cheeks of many hard looking people (and most of the blokes were in tears too).
John Warburton also performed at the iconic "Farmyard Party" in Yorkshire in 2008 in the 100% Biker Comedy Show where he took an audience of over 2,000 bikers by storm as the headline act, then went on to repeat his success at the 2008 Yorkshire Pudding rally near Sheffield.
This will be John’s first appearance at the Autumn Nabd’ness rally and it is sure to add many new bikers to his fan-base.
“Warburton is much in demand at the moment. His set bursts with clever wordplay and smart-Alec asides.” - Timeout
"Rock'n'roll and very, very funny!" - Loaded
“Cracking jokes non-stop... a comedian who is fast making a name for himself with his confidence, intelligence and wit.” - The Evening Chronicle, Newcastle
GARY DELANEY:
Gary Delaney is a razor sharp one-liner comedian, who is widely regarded as being the most quotable comic on the circuit. The high quantity of stand out gags leaves the audience struggling to remember them all.
Gary is at home in venues from arts centres and theatres to rowdy pubs and clubs and has played corporate gigs including the Labour Party Conference.
Gary regularly plays all the big clubs including The Comedy Store, Jongleurs, Komedia, Glee, Rawhide, The Frog and Bucket, Hyena, Baby Blue, The Stand, Comedy Café, Lee Hurst's Backyard, Banana Cabaret and at clubs throughout the UK.
Gary co-wrote Ivan Brackenbury's Hospital Radio Roadshow, which was nominated for the If.Comedy award (formerly the Perrier award) in 2007. Gary has recently appeared on Paramount's 'Comedy Blue'.
At the You’ve Been Nabbed rally in May 2009 in Cheshire, Gary had two and a half thousand bikers in stitches of laughter within seconds of going on stage and his slick quick-fire set earned him the title of “The King of the One-Liners”.
“unremittingly vicious comic Gary Delaney, master of the one-liner” – The Scotsman
“razor sharp one-liners” – Daily Telegraph
“verges on the genius” – Chortle
“Quickfire material of the very highest quality is pretty much guaranteed from the fast-thinking Delaney, a master of the deadpan one-liner.” – The Guardian
“the man Jimmy Carr tries to be” – BBC Online
Ruff Daddy
Britains most unique stand-up comedian is two foot six inches of drunken sweary Yorkshire pensioner, “Like Les Dawson meets John Prescott pissed-up in a kebab shop”. He has burst onto the UK comedy scene like an exploding fat girl.
If you think that sounds intriguing, there’s more… Ruff Daddy has a wife, she’s ‘Bad Mama’ and she takes no f’ing prisoners!
Visionary insight and outright filth with puppetry so sharp it’ll get you over Kermit. Written and performed by Steve Wright and Simon Kerrigan this act is something totally unique in the genre of stand-up comedy!
Rick Hulse first saw Ruff Daddy when they performed on the same bill at Manchester’s famous Frog & Bucket comedy club in an Asylum show. He laughed so hard that he spilt his own drink (that really doesn’t happen very often). A packed room of hardened comedy club regulars and nine other comedy acts, including the marvellous Richard Herring, were smitten by a rude, grumpy, incredibly funny, beer-swilling puppet and there was no question that Ruff Daddy just had to be introduced to the bike rally scene.
At the You’ve Been Nabbed 18 motorcycle rally, 2000+ people were in pain from laughing so hard and so long when Ruff Daddy and Bad Mama took centre stage in the Frog & Bucket Comedy Club Roadshow.
Fresh from another triumphal appearance in the Smacked Arse show at the 2009 Yorkshire Pudding rally, Ruff Daddy and Bad Mamma are sure to leave the audience reeling at the Autumn Nabdn’ess event.
“The audience loved it!” – Richard Herring
“I tried to think which of my mates it reminded me of, then I realised it was all of them. It was almost a shock at the end to remember that two very clever men were in plain view operating Ruff Daddy your attention is so drawn to Ruff Daddy and his little front room set.” – Rick Hulse
BARRY DODDS
Barry has forged an enviable reputation for himself over the past few years, charming audiences nationwide, with his uniquely tailored combination of disarming Geordie wit and wry, down-to-earth observational humour.
A finalist in both the Jimmy Carr Comedy Idol competition, and Jongleurs Last Laugh Comedy search, and a semi-finalist in the BBC New talent Awards Barry has taken the national circuit by storm, with his mix of surprisingly dark and irrepressibly cheeky material.
Fascinated by stand-up from an early age, Barry took to the stage at the tender age of 21, and is now a firm audience favourite at clubs such as The Stand, The Frog and Bucket, Opus, XS Malarkey and many more.
With material covering everything from failed culture bids to an obsession with ghosthunting. In 2006 Barry jetted off to Luxembourg where he performed a solo show - and became the first ever comedian to perform on Luxembourg TV.
This will be Barry’s first appearance in a Smacked-Arse Comedy show.
"Razor sharp humour" – Metro
"winning friends with his energy and spirit…" – Chortle
"Very impressive" – Jasper Carrot
"One of comedy's original thinkers" – Dominic Holland
LEIGH JONES (Guest Comic):
In the time since he started performing comedy at the age of 17, Leigh Jones has left school, dropped out of university, got married and subsequently divorced. For some reason, he hasn’t associated performing comedy with failing at life.
Still only 20, Leigh’s youth belies his experience of life both on and off the comedy circuit and can be seen gigging up and down the country at all manner of gigs.
A former member of The Comedy Store’s ComedySportz improv troupe, Leigh has performed both stand-up and improv in the United States. His training in improv gives him the ability to adapt his set on the fly or to MC and control a room with ease.
"One of the best new acts I have seen in years, and I’ve seen hundreds of the fuckers" - Martin 'Bigpig' Mor
"Confident delivery and a friendly character combined, gives you the Leigh experience that is never far from a laugh. Look forward to keeping up with The Jones’s" – Des Sharples, Mirth on Monday
Rick Hulse
(Host & Compere).
Rick Hulse's comedy style is brash, uncompromising and down-to-earth. Though the language can be raw, his insights into the world of, dieting, drugs, marriage, sex, and motorcycling never fail to entertain.
Having a twisted philosophical view on just about any subject, from ranting against life’s inequalities to musing on the design of human genitalia, makes for an unpredictable show. His long involvement in the biking scene, seventeen years as the Chairman of the NABD and thirteen years of writing comic fiction and manic articles under such names as Professor Pierre O’Bollox, M Phetamine and Shirley Crabtree, together with his off-hand Mancunian manner have made him a firm favourite in hosting bikers parties and rallies.
If you are looking for political correctness bring a microscope. Rick’s acerbic Mancunian wit bulldozes its way through life, the universe and everything (everything sex or alcohol related anyway).
“If you need a good comedian for your rally, just get Rick Hulse. He’s as funny as f**k!” – 100% Biker Magazine
“Rick Hulse once again had the crowd in hysterics” – BSH Magazine
“Despite the scary appearance, Rick Hulse proved to be an affable chap with a wry wit” – Manchester Evening News

Can I bring my own beer?
NO! Alcohol will not be permitted through the gate as we will be selling a good selection of beers wines and spirits at good prices on all three bars. Remember, this is a fundraiser for NABD, all profits from the bars help toward adapting vehicles for disabled riders. Also, glass bottles are not allowed in public areas.
Can I bring my dog?
No, sorry. Due to problems and complaints in the past, the only dogs allowed are guide dogs. The mess they leave is very unpleasant for wheelchair users.
I'd like to bring a trade stall
For trade and other enquiries, please call us on 0844 415 4849 during normal office hours.
NABD reserve the right to make changes to published arrangements without prior notice.
