My name is Bernie and from the age of 12 to 15 years I was in hospital with my left leg, disused knee cap and had my femur removed, also wore a calliper with a special boot. I got the all clear but was told it would bring problems later on. In my teens, I loved bikes, then on to cars. At forty, more problems with my leg, until finally I find walking extremely difficult. Anyway, I was fed up and bored, as I could not keep up with my friends and daughter, who is 12 years old, I very seldom left the house. Then I saw the NABD documentary on Men & Motors on the telly and realised that was the solution to my problem. The rest is history. I got a second hand trike, a Z 1100, but could not work the gears with my left leg. I got in touch with NABD then on to Billy ‘Adaption Man’. I applied for a grant for a Kliktronic gear change and got it. Bruce from Pitstop Motorcycles in Dundee (01382 667400) fitted it for me and I can’t wait for the summer to come.
I would like to thank Billy The Adaptions officer and Bruce from Pitstop Motorcycles for all their advice and help. After 35 years, I am able to get back on a bike (all be it a trike). I can’t explain how happy I feel. Bernard Mulholland This NABD grant of £460.00 was sponsored by The You’ve Been Nabbed 12A Rally
