I’m gonna tell you a story, as Max Bygraves used to say (hopefully, not as long).

After my accident at work in 2002, I still had my GSX 1100. I rode it a bit but the gearbox started to give up due to the way I used it after I lost the feeling in my left leg.

Then, one day I heard about NABD. I promptly joined and asked how long I had to be a member before I could get a grant for the Kliktronic gearchanger. Very quickly I had a reply from Billy, who said "Any time".

So without delay, paperwork done, it was off to Kliktronic in Bury St Edmunds (01359 242100) to have the biz done. Keith and Bob at Kliktronic were superb. They fitted the unit quickly and showed me how to use it. This adaptation gave me about another 8 months of two-wheeled biking until, finally my right leg started to catch up to my left in lack of feeling. The final nail in the coffin, so to speak, was when I pulled up at a set of traffic lights and fell over to the left, ending up pinned under the bike. That was the end of my two-wheel riding days.

When I sold my GSX, I took the Kliktronic system off and gave it back to NABD so that someone else could benefit from its use. The trike I was getting from Tony, another NABD member, already had the system fitted. All started well with the trike, then I had a few large hiccups with it and without Keith and Bob at Kliktronic would have given up biking.

In amongst these problems was, as my condition got worse, the steering got harder and harder for me to manage. This so aggravated the injury that it was no fun to be on the road.

However, Unit Sidecars at Sible Hedingham (01787 461000) and yet again, a NABD grant came to the rescue. In a blink of an eye, Ron and Dougal at Unit Sidecars fitted leading link suspension.

When I first collected the trike, Ron said to take it easy, as it would feel totally different, and 'Boy' was he right? Pulling out of their drive to the right, I almost went straight into the hedge, it was just so light.

When all is said and done, none of the above would have been possible without the help of the NABD, Keith and Bob at Kliktronic (with their speedy backup service), Ron and Dougal from Unit Sidecars for their speedy and professional fitting of the forks (plus other jobs they have done for me) and finally Tony who sold me the trike. I would still be off the road without them all.

Big Thanks Folks! Sean Edwards
