Thank you NABD. I am now the proud owner of a Kliktronic gear changer for my Yamaha Dragstar.

Several years ago, I had an accident which, after 11 operations, has left me with no ankle, just a fixed joint and looking forward to an amputation in the not too distant future.

As a househusband and parent to a very lively three-year-old, I had looked forward to getting out on my bike as often as possible. In the last few years I have rarely been able to ride due to ankle problems and operations. When I have managed to get out, I have found it difficult and uncomfortable to change gear. Now I need not worry again and I know, whatever future developments, I will be back on my bike as soon as possible.

I fitted the Kliktronic myself, which I found easy, but the fine-tuning and getting it to go through the gears had me baffled. After a good many hours, I phoned Billy. He gave me Kliktronic’s number and I was soon talking to Bob. He told me to put a trolley jack under the engine and start the engine up with the back wheel off the ground.

I immediately set to and within minutes had the unit working to a tee.

Riding the bike and not using the gear pedal felt odd and has taken some getting used to. But I will not look back at a gear pedal again.

Thanks to the NABD and their grant. I know that I can travel to the NABD rally in May on my Dragstar, rather than by car.
