VF1100 Magna Trike

About nine years ago, I had a car accident which left me paralysed from the waist down and have to depend on a wheelchair. I always had an interest in motorbikes and cars before my accident. It was only when my cousin was getting his Harley triked and I saw the finished product that I was hooked. I decided to go for a trike myself, as an ordinary motorbike was of no use because I am unable to stand.

After I had decided I would like a trike, I had to then go on the hunt to look for a shaft driven bike. I was lucky enough to come across a Honda VF 1100 Magna, which I used as the basis for my trike. I heard of Derek Winters of Diamond Trikes (02838 852635) from my cousin, so I went to see Derek and we had a chat.

It was from there that my trike was going to take shape. Derek has modified this trike especially for me because of my disability as this task was not going to be easy. He has modified the seating so that I will not move going round corners (it is like a slight bucket seat) with side guards and footplates that move up or down to leave easy access to and from the trike without getting my feet caught. He has also put controls for gear change, brake and clutch all at my left hand to work the trike. Derek has included a reverse gear in all gears, as I cannot push the trike backward, and a wooden box to take my wheelchair.

I would like to thank Derek and Richard of Diamond Trikes for all their hard work.

The trike won Best Adaption and Best Adapted Trike at last year’s You’ve been Nabbed show.

I would also like to thank NABD for the kind grant that I received from them to help make this dream possible.
