It's been another busy couple of months for us NABD folk in Kent; the rallies have been coming thick and fast this season, and to be honest, the last couple of month have been a bit of a blur. We also we attended the joint venture sailing day at the invitation of Tideway Sailability, which was a real hoot (see separate article). The Insane MCC's 3rd Insanity rally in late July went really well; despite the weather doing it's best to spoil things by raining most of Saturday. Although the rally had a low attendance (not helped by the rain) there was a great atmosphere to the event, helped by a good selection of silly games, bands and topless chocolate wrestling. The NABD stall also made it's best total for an event to date at well over £400, so can see us doing this one again next year, (thanks guys), On the 1st weekend in August we attended the Iron Horses MC. summer party. This was the first rally the club's held in several years, so the turnout was a lot lower than expected. We were sharing a staff with the CMA (thanks for the free tea & coffee Chris) and things were pretty quiet for a change, which gave us a chance to chill and enjoy the bands. I would like to thank Tony Kelly for bringing his adapted ZZR600 down for display at short notice - it was nice to have your company mate. Mid August arrived with the 8th Renegades Pissed Indian Rally, which is always a big do and the weather forecast was good, bringing expectations of a high turnout. Unusual choice of bands this year, with the Wurzels and Troggs headlining but they seemed to go down pretty well, (It's good stuff that real ale). An impressive line up of display vehicles turned out - thank's guys, with 1 solo, 1 outfit and 4 trikes including Tony Tofield's awesome Yamaha TMAX, which I hope to run a full feature on in the near future. It's the first time (as far as I know) that a large capacity twist 'n' go scooter has been triked, and could open a lot of doors for other disabled riders. The stall was very quiet considering there were over 2000 people on site, however, we still managed to raise a total of just over £260. Sadly one of our members (Kathryn) was seriously injured on Saturday morning, and had to be rushed to hospital. For various reasons I can't elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the incident here. But I would like to thank the Renegades and St John Ambulance for all they did to help, and we wish Kathryn a full and speedy recovery. September looms and we have the Travellers MCC to attend this coming weekend, which will be the last event planned for our stall this season. Then we have the Autumn NABD'ness rally to look forward to mid month. We've had a good summer season and it would be nice to finish it off with a cracking weekend at Cornbury Park, fingers crossed (or the weather and hope to see you all there. |
