London Rep

Ken May

Hello everybody. First things first, the London NABD meetings. For those of you who don't know, the date and venue for these have changed yet again. I've given up trying to find a pub that isn't going to shut or turn into some trendy wine bar and have moved the meetings to tha Ace Cafe. We now meet there every second Thursday of the month. It can get a bit busy as it's also Italian night, so if you have mobility problems and need to park in the car park tell the marshals at the gate you're there for the NABD meeting and they'll let you in.

This year got off to a cracking start thanks to the EVS (Emergency Volunteer Services), who managed to raise £2,250 for the NABD by running a helmet park at the Superbike show at Ally Pally. They decided to present the cheque to us at their egg run. Unfortunately the local council decided to shut the two major roads in and out of East-London on the same day. Never has it taken so long to travel such a short distance in my life and never has a cup of tea been more welcome at the end of a ride. But despite this, we got all the eggs there before they melted and the cheque was duly presented. Thank you to all the people involved for their hard work raising this money for us.

The summer has been busier than ever this year with Gary (Kent Rep) and myself attending rallies and fundraisers all over the South-East. It has been bloody hard work but thanks to the rest of the crew, a faithful bunch of members who always turn up, it has been bloody good fun too. At the end of July we took our stall to the Insane MCC's Insanity Rally. The weather was not looking to good when we set off on Friday morning, even the ducks had buggered off to somewhere drier and after taking 2 hours to do about 40 miles on the M25, things were not looking good. I shouldn't have worried though, the Insane MCC always put on a good do and this one was no exception. The chocolate 'mud' wrestling went down very well. Especially as on Saturday night the lads decided to have a whip round if the girls who were wrestling went topless and £120 was raised, very quickly, for the NABD. Also Lee, of Fantasy Fine Line Tattoos, donated some of his time and ink and did three tattoos for free, if the client donated the money to NABD, this raised £160 bringing the total for the weekend to nearly £400. A very big thanks to everyone and hope to see you next year. That's about it for now, the screen is becoming a bit of a blur. I hope to see some of you down the Ace now I have a permanent venue for our meetings and for those of you who can't make it, I'll let you know what's been happening in my next report. Ride safe.
