Reading Open House issue 40 I saw Bryony Miller's letter about her fitting a Kliktronic gear change to her Harley 1200 Sportster. I read with interest because I have just brought one.
When you first sent me a Kliktronic kit I had a GSXR750 which I was building as a street fighter. The bike was nice but not very comfortable to ride for me so it had to go, a sad loss for me as it took a lot of time and money to build.
I do some driving at the weekends to earn some extra dosh and in the summer we had (those 2 weeks) I saw no end of custom bikes on my travels and thought it has to be a custom bike for me next. Over the next few weeks I looked around for a bike but in the back of my mind I could hear myself say if it's not a Harley it's not a custom.
I went to my local Harley shop and within no time I was the proud owner of a 1200 Sportster custom, next problem was to fix the Kliktronic to the bike. I rang Bob at Kliktronic to ask for help, I told him what bike I just bought and that was it. 'I take it you're not a Harley fan' I said. 'Well everyone has their opinion' he says with a smirk in his voice. We arranged a date for the bike to be delivered to their workshop in Bury St Edmonds and was told to collect it the following day.
When I arrived I was greeted by both Bob & Keith and they took me to my bike, my face lit up like a big kid as I saw it and knew I would soon be riding it. Bob & Keith had both test ridden the bike and had grins on their face like they both enjoyed it. It looks so easy to fit when you look at it but I can tell you it was a pig to fit.
Both Bob and Keith have my thanks for doing a great job on the bike and they have taken some photos of the Kliktronic fixed to the bike so they can tell you or even better let them fix it to your pride and joy. (it's worth it just to hear Bob's views on Harleys).
