Kliktronic on Guernsey

Bryony Miller's 1200 Sportster - happiness has 3 wheels

I first encountered the Kliktronic at the N.A.B.D. stall at the B.M.F. show, Peterborough, May 2001.Having tried it out on the demo provided, and speaking to Rick Hulse, I then tried the mechanism on a trike that was on show. It was very impressive and a solution to my problems. I have Brachial Plexus Injury to my left arm, general weakness like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in my left hand. It is painful and a hindrance with gear changing especially since I'd graduated from a Yamaha Virago 250XV to a Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster Sport. After an accident on the H-D which left my right leg damaged, I was keen to re-develop the bike, so I decided to convert her to a trike, using a Lehman kit. Fitting the Kliktronic on the Harley wasn't easy, and I was advised by Billy at N.A.B.D. that it could be awkward. It has taken a few modifications to the trike to fit it, but it works all thanks to my boyfriend Paul, who patiently worked it all out. It has taken time but it has been well worth the wait! A trip to the UK proved that I was now able to ride long distances with more comfort. Currently, the mounting bracket is being resigned to incorporate a fixing point for the steering damper. We realise the Kliktronic is not at 90 degrees to the pedal as recommended, but we experienced vibration problems where it was. I will send photos of the new mount when complete, as it may give other sporty owners some ideas, as it is not that easy to fit, with forward controls.

Many thanks to all N.A.B.D. for their help it wouldn't have been possible without them!
